D Chef Restaurant @ Lebuh Presgrave, Georgetown, Penang

Birthday Celebration @ D Chef Restaurant Ah Boy brought me to this resto (Italian style) to celebrate my mid-20th birthday which was recommended by one of his buddy. They will serve you a free appetiser if you made the booking in advance. It is located nearby 1st Avenue shopping mall. It took awhile for the food to be served. I always think bruschetta is a very simple dish to prepare. However, this one taste a bit flat & no characteristic which the taste is not the same as I usually have.  Avocado and Prawn Appetiser with Black Tobiko Caviar Nice presentation and good piece of juicy and pinky pork meat but imperfect without flavour! Since porky and mushroom tasted so dull, balsamic sauce is too tiny drop for big pieces of meats.  Beer sirloin. Cheesy rice is good but beef has no flavour. Pudding with chocolate spoon and orange skin.  The most satisfied dish I had for that night, the Pudding. The pudding's texture...

Yam cake @ One Corner CAFE, Jalan Basawah, Georgetown, Penang 芋头糕

P/S : Hi people, I am so busy since I was back to the 'Asian style' of working life. I have many things on hand and wanted to share with everyone, but  I don't have time to post it up here. So my coming post will be just short and sweet. Yam cake @ One Corner Cafe (near to New World Park) Happy weekend people but poor me have to work at home today. Ahh, typical working life in Asia. Well at least  'Big Asian breakfast' today with 'Yam cake', 'Chicken porridge' and a glass of  'sugarless barley drink' was good enough to cheer me up. It's hard to find the cube of real 'yam' in the yam cake with lots of topping nowadays because of the hike of price of vegetable especially yam. It is worth for money I think and I am happy to pay for RM3.40. There are also other good food in this 'kopitiam' such as 'Hokkien Mee' or 'Prawn Mee'. However, it is quite hard to find a table because it is always f...

Roti - Wrap - Flatbread Recipe

Roti - The Indian Flatbread This roti is different from the Malaysia's Roti Canai. Malaysia's roti canai is butterly and oily but this one is dry and similar like a wrap which is so much healthier. You can also save a lot of money to make your own wrap. I learn to eat this when I stayed in Thornbury, VIC with my housemate from north India. They are a lovely couples and the wife always cook at home. They always offered me to eat with them and that's how I know about this. She will make fresh roti almost everyday for dinner. Every time when I saw her making, I think it was complicated because you need to roll the dough, make into shape and cook one by one. But I really miss her roti and thus I decided to learn to make my own. Another reason that made me want to make this because of the wraps sold in Malaysia are not cheap, around RM5 to RM7 for 'mission' brand. Also, I miss tortilla and quesadilla, kebab - those Mexican and Middle East dishes. This was ...

Chicken Rice @ Jalan Burma, Penang 鸡饭

Chicken Rice - The good one and big portion I found the good chicken rice finally! Braised egg was nice too! So satisfying and so full :D Well, because I am not very fussy on which part of meat, so he gave me heaps of chicken breast meat! However, my colleague said it is too expensive and okay okay only? Okay how I measure chicken rice? At first, because ever since I came back, I had never tasted any good one. So this one so far has reached my standard. My measurement is quantity and quality. For quantity, many chicken rice I have eaten at others place were so little in chicken meat. I am not a carnivores but isn't it a chicken rice?! Quality means flavour and freshness which is quite subjective especially for flavour. Rice itself is also a flavour kicking for chicken rice. They actually gave plenty of rice, yet the boys next table still requested for extra serve of rice. I am not very fussy on soup or chilli paste that come with chicken rice. The soup is okay...

The sticky rice - Loh Mai Fan

The Sticky Rice- The Loh Mai Fan with pork Sticky rice does not need plenty of time to soak nor cook. No complication~ I used to do Loh Mai Kai (chicken version) once but it was long time ago. This time I didn't have chicken, so I used the pork instead. Besides, I altered some of the ingredients to make it simple and most importantly it did not take much time to prepare and cook!  What you see from the photo is a huge portion. I didn't want to waste time, space and energy to put them into a few small bowls. So, I put them into A LARGE BOWL . As you can see, the rice was still not yet cooked after stir fried it on the pan. Next, put in a bowl and steam it! (4 serving size ; approximately 370 kcal/ serving) Ingredients *1 1/2 to 2 cup of glutinous rice 3 small dried shitake mushroom, soaked in hot water and sliced 2 tbsp dried shrimp, minced 2 cloves garlic, minced A small bowl of meat (pork/chicken), thick sliced (bonded meat is ok...

Dry Sambal Kuey Tiao @ Goodall Cafe, Jalan Gottlieb, Penang 干粿条

Dry Sambal Kuey Tiao with vegetables I knew this dish from one of my ovo-lacto vegetarian colleague. Once I tried it, I love it! It was cheap, only RM3.30 and came with a bowl of soup ! Hardly seen cheap food in Penang any more. Much more healthier and not much oily too! It is rared to see the hawker put plenty of vegetables on a dish and put them nicely in Malaysia. There was lettuce, carrot, bean sprouts, spring onion, fried garlic, fish paste and chicken on top of the kuey tiao. So, my vegetarian colleague will order this without meat. The sambal came separated on the side which you can put as little as or as much as according to your liking. For me, the sambal was all poured in the plate and mixed together with the kuey tiao. I told the aunty to swap the seaweed soup instead of fish balls soup for me. So, you can choose to have either one.  I am not sure whether it opens at night because I went there during my lunch hour at 1pm. The stall is closed on Tuesday ...

Morganfields Sticky Bones @ Gurney Paragon, Penang

Gigantic Pork Ribs - The American The portion was so bloody huge that I can't finish the half rack of ribs! I felt so sinful to leave the half of the meal unfinished. It was worth for the price and would like to dine in again! I reckon 2-3 girls to share a plate. Flavour-wise and food quality, not bad. I was so worried about how I was going to eat the pork ribs =.= Thank god I did not need to use my hands because the meats were so soft and easy to pull apart.  The peppercorn flavour pork ribs taste better and moisture than BBQ. It was not hot but flavourful. Their smashed potato was good too, not oily. RM40 This BBQ flavour pork ribs were a bit dry. Also, the BBQ flavour was not flavourful enough for me. I can taste the plum's sourness but I think it needs some sugar/honey or something to hit the right taste. Maybe I have used to eat the rich smoky BBQ flavour. RM40 Oops, can't remember the name of the drinks. The back drink was made of Ros...
